Steroid

    One of a group of naturally occurring or synthetic hormones which are complex lipids based on the cholesterol molecule, and which affect chemical processes in the body, growth, and sexual and other physiological functions. They include adrenal cortical, testicular, and ovarian hormones and their derivatives.

Hormones
Biological compounds that communicate information at a distance. Hormones require specific receptors to begin their biological action and use second messengers to initiate the cellular process that uses that information.

Cholesterol
A substance similar to fat that is found in the blood, muscles, liver, brain, and other body tissues.

Affect
This word is used to described observable behavior that represents the expression of a subjectively experienced feeling state (emotion). Common examples of affect are sadness, fear, joy, and anger. The normal range of expressed affect varies considerably between different cultures and even within the same culture. Types of affect include: euthymic, irritable, constricted; blunted; flat; inappropriate, and labile.

Sexual
Pertaining to sex or, more particularly, the stimulation, responsiveness, and functions of the sex organs either alone or with one or more partners.

Cortical
Having to do with the cortex, the outer portion of an organ.

Sertraline hydrochloride is an antidepressant for oral administration. It is chemically unrelated to tricyclic, tetracyclic, or other available antidepressant agents.
